Strategic Patent Positioning
STARTEK owns more than 7 (seven) key patents in regards to fingerprint recognition. Startek does not source others' patented technology to develop its product roadmap; patent infringements is and will, never, become a concern for customers to acquire Startek's products or technology for use. Moreover, with the broad acceptance of biometric data in various end applications, Startek is now in a strategic position to leverage its patent robustness by working with stakeholders in the automatic identification ecosystem to jointly develop new business model, with the goal to further provide new value-added services to the globe.
Why Minutiae-Only Algorithm?
STARTEK has developed fingerprint recognition technology based on minutiae-only matching since 1990, well ahead of the industry to prove the "minutiae data only" concept for fingerprint template generation by 1999 and thus concluding ISO/IEC 19794-2 standard in 2005. Peers opting for alternate approaches by adding features in the templates encounter challenges to keep up with the ISO-compliant roadmap or are forced to acquire a 3rd party's technology. With "minutiae data only" fingerprint template as the basic, a system truly open, universally authenticable while unique to respective individuals, can be constructed.
Given the long developing history of related patented technology, Startek can add competitive advantages to customer deployment, more than our peers can offer in the intellectual property practically applied for use.
The Most Reduced Size of Software Code and Template Data
STARTEK's software code size ranges between 30K and 100K bytes. A template of minutiae data takes just 100bytes. Both have the most reduced size in the industry and this uniqueness provides hardware developers great advantages in design by leveraging a lower bills of materials structure, while producing equal or better performance our peers need to do on a higher bills of materials strucutre. Less frequent design revisions also provides consistence in delivering performance and field reliability.
Take STARTEK's own hardware roadmap as an example, each product life cycle can last normally twice or three times longer than competitors who will need to re-design to the most up-to-date hardware technology in order to deliver an increasing performance demanded by customers; however, customers frequently suffer by the in-compatibility from newer version to older version, as well as the constant field replacement caused by hardware instability.
An IP Portfolio to Enable Authentication Ecosystem by Match-on-"Your Target Subjects"
Vehicles for automatic authentication are expanding from match-on-computers, match-on-devises to match-on-cards. Following the trend, we foresee the adoption of Match-on-"Your Target Subjects" will certainly happen to make the reliable, accurate and safe authentication further available to everybody's daily life.
A few heads-up examples are electronic transactions on next-generation smart phones with biometric functions, cross agency authentication for e-payment and e-commerce against interoperable fingerprint matching, and implementation of biometrics and PKI based digital signatures. STARTEK's patented technology will serve this market direction well, since it's based on a minutiae-only matching algorithm to comply with all possible open statendards to be set in the coming future, as well as a software and data code size reduced to minimum for simple implementation and performance consideration.
STARTEK looks forwards to sharing the vision and working out a cooperative business model with potential partners, either a middleware developer, a semiconductor component suppliers, an internet services providers, e.g. one-payment solution providers, or whoever plans to play a key role in transforming the automatic authentication ecosystem together. Please contact us directly by writing to IP_marketing@mail.startek-eng.com. We are open to discussion of technology licensing, joint-development projects based on STATEK's patented technology or any propositions that might come across as ths engagement evolves. The goal is to enable an ecosystem to achieve the concept delivery of "Authentication by Match-on-Your Target Subjects".
